Volunteers are an
important part of life at the Clarion. They are appreciated and valued
for the contribution that they make in the lives of Residents. Clarion
is a member of the Ontario Volunteer Association and Volunteers are
recognized on a regular basis with Recognition and Reward Programs and
thank you ceremonies during National Volunteer Week.
Volunteer are all
specially trained to provide a number of services.
Meal Assistants:
Assisting the care staff by providing a friendly, warm atmosphere
for Residents to enjoy their meal or to help with the Restorative Dining
program, where Residents can maintain their independence through the
use of specialized utensils, under gentle supervision with lots of encouragement.
Escort:
Accompanying Residents to various appointments, via Clarion's
Wheelchair Van, Taxis and Darts to ensure their safety and security.
Church
Services: Porter Residents to and from services and assist
them during church, as well as visiting with them afterward.
Reading
Time: Giving that little extra to Residents by reading a book
or letters and cards that they have received.
Friendly
Visiting: One on one time visiting with Residents in their
room or in a common area. This provides comfort, companionship and social
stimulation for the Residents.
Portering:
A very important task, seeing that Residents get to and from
the barber, hairdresser, and special activities.
Crafts:
Offering creative talents to provide craft articles for fundraising
projects or to assist Residents with their own craft project.
Bingo Assistant:
Enable residents to enjoy a game of bingo, assisted by monitoring cards
for those who may not be able to play on their own.
Volunteers are always
welcome to join. Come alone or with a friend. Volunteers are adults
as well as teens, however if you are under the age of 16 special permission
is required. It is rewarding to know that you have touched the lives
of others and that their life is better because of the time you have
given.
